St. Michael's Hospital, part of Unity Health Toronto, is a renowned academic health science center committed to providing exceptional patient care, advancing groundbreaking research, and training the next generation of healthcare professionals. We are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our dynamic team on a full-time temporary basis for an 18-month maternity leave.

As an integral member of the Nuclear Medicine Team, the incumbent will perform a wide range of routine and complex diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine & molecular imaging procedures in accordance with applicable legislation, clinical standards, and departmental procedures, and adhere to the standards of the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO).

The NM Technologist must have a good understanding and working knowledge of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and medical terminology. They must use professional and ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing all duties, and remain sensitive to patient’s physical and emotional needs by applying communication, patient assessment and education, patient monitoring, and patient care skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the full gamut of diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine & molecular imaging procedures; including nuclear medicine, nuclear cardiology, SPECT/CT, PET/CT (preferred), bone mineral density, and radionuclide therapy and theranostic exams and procedures.
  • Operate and maintain nuclear medicine equipment, ensuring their proper functioning and adherence to quality control standards.
  • Produce high quality diagnostic images and post-processing reformats.
  • Perform radiopharmaceutical production and quality control procedures.
  • Perform cardiovascular stress testing.
  • Prioritize and co-ordinate procedure scheduling, develop appropriate care plans, and responsible for all aspects of patient care including assisting, educating, and instructing patients before, during, and after their procedure.
  • Collect, document, and verify patient information and relevant history, maintain records, adhere to patient privacy and confidentiality protocols, and obtain informed consent.
  • Practice in accordance with radiation safety, occupational health and safety, infection prevention and control protocols; adhere to all Unity Health policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate effectively with all members of our multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Participate in learner education and new staff training.
  • Uphold and promote the mission, vision, and values of Unity Health Toronto.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a recognized nuclear medicine & molecular imaging educational program (diploma, undergraduate degree, or higher), required.
  • Nuclear Medicine Certification (RTNM) with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT), required
  • Current Nuclear Medicine Technologist registration and in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO), required.
  • Strong knowledge of nuclear medicine & molecular imaging procedures, protocols, and equipment operation, required; recent related experience in a hospital environment, strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in radiopharmaceutical production, handling, and administration, an asset.
  • 12-lead ECG interpretation and stress testing certification and experience, an asset.
  • Completion of PET/CT courses or certificate and experience, an asset.
  • Completion of CT courses or certificate and experience, an asset.
  • Completion of a cross sectional anatomy course and experience, an asset.
  • Completion of a CT contrast injection course and experience, an asset.
  • Completion of an Ontario Association of Radiologists Canadian Bone Mineral Densitometry (OAR CBMD) or International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) course, and bone mineral density and vertebral fracture assessment experience, an asset.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
