Job Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Radiology, part of the UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, is seeking a Nuclear Medicine Technologist specializing in Positron Emission Tomography (PET). This role supports research, clinical, and patient care services at the Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research (WIMR).

The position involves working in an outpatient setting, Monday-Friday, with no nights, weekends, holidays, or call duties. Responsibilities include preparing, administering, and imaging radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic PET procedures, focusing on patient care, imaging quality, and radiation safety.

The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with excellent patient care skills and strict safety adherence to ensure successful outcomes.

Core Responsibilities

1. Patient Preparation:
   • Explain procedures, address concerns, and ensure understanding.
   • Assess medical history and confirm pre-procedure compliance.
   • Position patients for imaging.
2. Radiopharmaceutical Handling:
   • Prepare and calculate doses according to protocols.
   • Administer radiopharmaceuticals safely via injection.
3. Imaging Procedures:
   • Operate PET scanners for image capture.
   • Adjust imaging parameters for quality images.
4. Collaboration with Physicians:
   • Work with nuclear medicine physicians or radiologists.
   • Assist in interpreting results.
5. Patient Monitoring and Care:
   • Monitor patients during and after procedures.
   • Address adverse reactions.
6. Radiation Safety and Compliance:
   • Implement safety protocols.
   • Maintain documentation and proper disposal of radioactive materials.
7. Administrative Duties:
   • Maintain detailed records.
   • Schedule appointments and coordinate with physicians.
