Job summary

Alberta Health Services at South Health Campus in Calgary seeks a Nuclear Medicine Technologist to perform SPECT procedures within Diagnostic Imaging. The role involves operating gamma cameras, ECG monitors, and radiation safety systems to deliver accurate results while prioritizing patient care.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Nuclear Medicine Technology (NMT) diploma from an accredited program.
  • Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists.
  • Registry exam in Nuclear Medicine Technology.
  • BCLS certification.
  • Venipuncture and Lasix certification.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to take on responsibility.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and foster teamwork.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform nuclear medicine procedures for diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology.
  • Use gamma cameras, computers, ECG monitors, cardiac stress equipment, and radiation safety devices.
  • Operate and maintain equipment to ensure safety and quality of examinations.
  • Provide high-quality patient care and support during procedures.
  • Practice radiation protection, infection control and safety techniques.
  • Work independently while promoting teamwork with patients, staff and physicians.

Job description

Overview

The South Health Campus provides service to the Calgary Zone in high-need areas, including Women’s Health, NICU, Emergency, Surgery and Mental Health. It serves inpatients and outpatients, providing wellness services, illness prevention, and public health learning opportunities for the community in conjunction with a YMCA on-site. The South Health Campus has four key pillars of service: Collaborative Practice, Wellness, Patient and Family Centered Care, and Innovation. These pillars guide the development and delivery of service to all patients and families at SHC. This position is responsible for providing and performing the highest quality service possible to the clients of Diagnostic Imaging Services during Nuclear Medicine including SPECT examinations in an effective, efficient, and safe manner. A member of the Diagnostic Imaging team, the role works all shifts and on‑call, as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of nuclear medicine procedures for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology.
  • Use a wide range of equipment such as gamma cameras, computers, ECG monitors, cardiac stress equipment, and radiation safety devices as described in the department procedure manual.
  • Operate and maintain equipment to ensure safety and quality of examinations.
  • Provide high‑quality patient care and support during procedures.
  • Practice effective radiation protection, infection control, and safety techniques.
  • Work independently and promote teamwork, demonstrating tact and courtesy with patients, staff, and physicians.
Required Qualifications
  • Completion of a diploma from an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology (NMT) Program.
  • Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Successful completion of registry exam in Nuclear Medicine Technology.
  • Member in good standing and current registration with the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists.
  • BCLS certification.
  • Venipuncture and Lasix certification.
  • Good organizational skills, ability to assume responsibility, and good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and promote good teamwork.
  • Perceptive, initiative, good judgement, and concern for detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations.
  • Practices effective radiation protection, infection control and safety techniques as applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Acute facility adult nuclear medicine experience.
  • Full CTIC Certificate with completed practicum.
  • Experience with Epic/Connect Care Software (asset).
