Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Canada seeks a seasoned facilities operations leader to supervise a multi-discipline team, manage infrastructure, and align procurement with project scopes. You will oversee safety, reliability and space planning while coordinating with stakeholders to support complex nuclear operations.

The role emphasizes leadership, safety culture, and accountability across maintenance, asset management and operational budgeting, with a hybrid working culture and diverse development

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Engineering or Construction Technology is an asset.
  • 10+ years’ experience supporting facility operations and maintenance.
  • Experience leading teams and projects in construction, manufacturing or engineering services.
  • Experience in a Nuclear environment is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial and nuclear safety culture.
  • Ability to read construction drawings and specs.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise 6-10 facility staff and nuclear facility licensing staff.
  • Manage building infrastructure systems including fire, water, wastewater, HVAC, electrical, heating and cooling.
  • Oversee housekeeping, groundskeeping and security infrastructure.
  • Lead space planning, SharePoint space allocation, and project coordination.
  • Manage budgets, capital asset requests, and procurement for building operations.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders and conduct regular site walkdowns.

Job Description Overview

Team Management

Supervision of approximately 6-10 facility support staff. Supervision of Nuclear Facility Licensing staff. Managing team training and qualifications as related to building operation needs and hosted parties’ logistical needs. Recruiting and hiring of new staff when required; make effective decisions/recommendations on (or responsible for) human resource issues and effectively manage and resolve work performance problems as they relate to the facility. Establishment, oversight and accountability of facility management teams at each of Candu’s lab facilities.

Facility Maintenance

Management of all existing building infrastructure systems, including:

  • Fire system.
  • Supply water.
  • Wastewater.
  • Air handling.
  • Electrical infrastructure & lighting.
  • Heating.
  • Cooling.
  • Elevator licensing, control and management.
  • Building drawing maintenance.

Responsible for all internal and external housekeeping and groundskeeping for common areas. Responsible for all facility security infrastructure.

Facility Asset Management

All lifting and handling equipment, including multiple cranes and tow-motors. Tool Crib management. Consumables management.

Facility Improvement Initiatives

Project oversight (prime stakeholder) of remediation/deconstruction projects for legacy test fixtures and for office building upgrades. Responsible for approval of scope documents for remediation projects. Responsible for effective turnover of remediation projects from the construction team/phase back to facility operations. Legacy drawing management.

Space Planning & Allocation

Hosting internal programs and external projects. Managing new space requests: Oversight and management of SharePoint space allocation console. Managing space allocation conflicts and interferences.

Stakeholder & Operations Management

Form and maintain relationships with clients, suppliers and project stakeholders. Responsible for leading meetings, taking and resolving actions, and producing minutes of meetings. Responsible for frequent and routine facility walkdowns to coordinate floor activities and to direct housekeeping activities. Responsible for organization, storage and inventory of both facility consumable materials and facility assets.

Operational Budgeting

Responsible for preparation and control of infrastructure budgets as related to building operation. Responsible for preparation of Capital Asset Requests for major building changes and upgrades.

Procurement and Supply Chain Alignment

Preparing and managing budgets and accountability for assigned scope/project performance. Responsible for requisitioning and approving (within Limits of Authority) new and stand-alone Purchase Orders. Responsible for managing open Purchase Orders for regular/ongoing building subcontractors.

Stakeholder Alignment

Support for other primary stakeholders who contribute to building operations: Executive & Corporate Communications. Radiation Protection Department. Conventional Safety Department. Information Technology. Security. Safety Accountability: Accountable for all aspects of industrial safety including adherence with corporate and customer safety programs, development and enforcement of necessary training and requirements, adherence to corrective action programs and enforcement of performance standards for all of the above.

About you
  • Diploma or Degree in Engineering Technology or Construction Technology or equivalent is an asset.
  • 10+ years’ experience supporting facility operations and maintenance.
  • Support for various types of projects including construction, manufacturing or engineering services projects is also an asset.
  • 10+ years’ experience leading individuals and teams.
  • Experience working in a Nuclear environment is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of industrial safety and nuclear safety culture.
  • Knowledge in transportation of radioactive/nuclear materials is an asset.
  • An appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry.
  • Understanding of nuclear supply chain and materials management principles.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, blueprints and specifications.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and planning capabilities to help the team grow the business and expand the facilities’ capabilities.
  • Lead by example and set high standards for Health & Safety and Nuclear Safety Culture.
  • Can build a team and can inspire them to perform and work together towards a common goal.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and customer relationship skills.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
