Job summary

North Bay Hydro Distribution Limited is seeking an experienced Manager, Operations to lead the safe, reliable, and efficient construction, maintenance, and operation of NBHDL’s overhead and underground electrical distribution system.

You will provide leadership to Operations and oversee distribution, construction and maintenance, capital projects, asset management, fleet and facilities, locating services, and operational planning, while collaborating with Engineering and regulators to ensure

Qualifications

• Professional designations required or preferred (P.Eng., CPA, CET/Tech, PMP)
• Strong background in electrical distribution/utility operations is essential
• Proven leadership and budgeting experience in a unionized environment

• Coach and develop employees; manage performance, staffing, resources, and labor relations
• Oversee distribution construction and maintenance, including subdivisions and new services
• Manage capital and operational projects, budgeting, scheduling, contracting, quality, and contract administration
• Ensure compliance with Ontario Regulation 22/04 and safety requirements
• Promote a strong safety culture through training and inspections
• Oversee asset management, fleet, facilities, inventory, and locating services
• Develop departmental plans, budgets, policies, and procedures to improve operations
• Collaborate with Engineering, customers, municipalities, contractors, consultants, and regulators
• Support regulatory and ESA audits and participate in Management Availability rotation

North Bay Hydro Distribution Limited is seeking an experienced Manager, Operations to lead the safe, reliable, and efficient construction, maintenance, and operation of NBHDL’s overhead and underground electrical distribution system. The Manager, Operations will provide leadership to Operations and oversee distribution, construction and maintenance, capital projects, asset management, fleet and facilities, locating services, and operational planning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead day-to-day Operations, including Lines and Stores, with potential future responsibility for Metering and Substation.
• Lead, coach, and develop employees; manage performance, staffing, resources, and labour relations in a unionized environment.
• Oversee distribution construction and maintenance, including subdivisions, new services, relocations, rebuilds, extensions, and system modifications.
• Manage capital and operational projects, including budgeting, scheduling, contracting, quality, and contract administration.
• Ensure compliance with Ontario Regulation 22/04, safety requirements, corporate standards, and applicable legislation.
• Promote a strong safety culture through training, inspections, and effective work practices.
• Oversee asset management, fleet, equipment, facilities, inventory, and locating services.
• Develop departmental plans, budgets, policies, and procedures to improve operational effectiveness.
• Collaborate with Engineering, employees, customers, municipalities, contractors, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
• Support regulatory and ESA audits and participate in the Management Availability rotation.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

• Professional designation such as P.Eng., CPA, C.E.T./C. Tech., or PMP.
• 10–15 years of related experience, including at least 5 years of management/supervisory experience.
• Experience in electrical distribution, utility operations, engineering, construction, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of distribution systems, construction practices, safety, and regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrated project, budget, contractor, and people-management experience.
• Strong leadership, communication, decision-making, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project.

Starting Salary: $131,908
