Overview

This position involves coordinating and assisting in delivering analytical services through the Proteomics & Metabolomics Core Facility. Responsibilities include planning, performing, and analyzing experiments involving mass spectrometry for environmental and bone samples to identify taxonomic origins. Precise sample preparation and operation of mass spectrometry systems are essential.

Organizational Structure

Reports to the Operations Manager with dotted-line reporting to the Academic Director and Camilla Speller. Will supervise and train staff and students, and work independently on experiments. Must work sensitively with Indigenous groups regarding sample handling.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research projects analyzing environmental samples for taxonomic origin.
  • Prepare and analyze samples, report results, and develop methods.
  • Manage sample tracking and participate in team meetings.
  • Supervise and train staff and students, and communicate with clients.
Judgment and Supervision

Exercises significant judgment in work procedures, with high responsibility for sample sensitivity and result accuracy. Supervision involves independent work with consultation as needed and overseeing lab activities.

Qualifications
Minimum
  • University degree in a relevant discipline or technical program, with at least four years of related experience or an equivalent combination.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred
  • Graduate degree in anthropology, experience with proteomic analysis, Indigenous engagement experience, knowledge of molecular biology techniques, and strong communication skills.
