Job description

Non-profit Board Positions

Green Thumbs Growing Kids (GTGK) has been cultivating environmental stewardship and food literacy for over 25 years through hands-on garden education in Toronto schools and communities. We’re a registered charity with a powerful vision : a garden in every school — and we’re looking for passionate, committed individuals to join our Board of Directors.

As a recent Toronto Community Champions Award winner, GTGK runs dynamic programs where children grow native plants, harvest kid-friendly fruits and vegetables, compost with worms, and connect with nature in meaningful ways. Our mission is to cultivate environmental stewardship through hands-on garden and food education for urban children, youth and their communities.

Why Join the Board?

  • Help shape an organization that makes a real impact on children, youth, and urban communities
  • Gain experience and training in nonprofit governance, fundraising, and strategic planning
  • Build your network with changemakers and environmental educators
  • Champion fun, educational, and inclusive initiatives rooted in sustainability and community care

This is a working board, with members actively contributing to strategic planning, fundraising, events, and community representation. Board members commit approximately 10–15 hours / month, including monthly virtual meetings, committee work, and participation in community or fundraising events. Terms are two years, renewable for up to four.
