Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized opticianry diploma or certificate program, or equivalent practical experience in optical dispensing.
• 1–3 years of experience in dispensing eyewear, optical retail, or clinical optical environment.
• Proficiency with optical instruments and basic laboratory procedures for lens verification and measurement.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with clear verbal communication and patient counselling ability.
• Good numeracy, attention to detail and manual dexterity for precise measurements and frame adjustments.
• Basic computer skills for record-keeping and order processing, and the ability to stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Interpret eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions and take precise measurements such as pupillary distance and segment height.
• Select, fit and adjust frames and lenses to ensure comfort, visual acuity and proper alignment.
• Use optical instruments (lensometer, PD meter, pupilometer) and inspect finished lenses for quality and accuracy.
• Order and manage inventory of frames, lenses and optical supplies, and coordinate work with external labs for lens fabrication.
• Repair, alter and maintain eyewear, including frame adjustments, replacing nose pads and re-tempering frames.
• Maintain client records, process transactions, provide aftercare instructions, and schedule follow-up appointments as needed.
