Job summary

Nisga'a School District No. 92 is seeking a temporary Nisga'a Language & Culture Education Assistant for Nathan Barton Elementary School. This 5.5-hour-a-day role runs from September 8, 2026 to June 25, 2027 and supports K-7 classrooms to foster an inclusive learning environment.

The successful candidate will work with the Nisga'a language and culture program, assist in morning NL classes, and help intermediate students develop language skills in the afternoons, under supervision.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12 required.
• Knowledge of Nisga'a history, culture and language essential.
• Training in First Nations Language Essentials curriculum (A.S.K.M.E.).
• Practice with A.S.K. M.E. Level 1.
• Willingness to translate the A.S.K. M.E. document and attend training.
• Ability to speak Nisga'a fluently or willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Assist in creating an inclusive education environment in K-7 classrooms.
• Work with the NL teacher in the mornings to assist with the NL classes.
• Afternoons shared with NL and 5/6/7 teachers to develop language skills for intermediate students.
• Duties assigned by the school Principal.

Nisga'a School District No. 92 invites applications for a temporary K-7 Nisga'a Language & Culture Assistant. This is a 5.5 hour a day position at Nathan Barton Elementary School starting September 8, 2026 and ending June 25, 2027. The Nisga'a Language and Culture Assistant would work in the K-7 classrooms to assist with creating an inclusive education environment. There will be monthly meetings with the Nisga'a Language teacher; the assistant would work directly with the classroom teacher to develop language skills inside the classroom environment. The NLA position will work with the NL teacher in the mornings to assist with the NL classes. The afternoons would be shared by the NL teacher, and the 5/6/7 teachers to work on developing language skills for the intermediate students. Duties will be assigned by the school Principal. The Successful Candidate Will Have Demonstrated

• Completion of Grade 12

• Ability to work constructively with parents and students as requested
• Experience in a high-energy environment working with elementary students
