Job description

Are you a dynamic and enthusiastic Registered Veterinary Nurse ready to take on a varied and rewarding challenge? Join our team as a Ninja Nurse, a unique rotational role that allows you to work across multiple departments within our referral hospital.

As a Ninja Nurse, you’ll rotate through many areas of the hospital:

  • ward areas
  • imaging to support sedations
  • oncology
  • theatre

Working as part of the hospital nursing team to support all clinical services and facilitate case flow through each department.

This role offers the opportunity to explore the referral hospital environment and expand referral-specific knowledge and experience. We seek dynamic, hardworking nurses willing to move across hospital departments under the guidance of the Nursing Management and head nurse teams. This position is ideal for those wishing to work in a referral setting without specializing in one area.

Applicants should have at least 1 year of qualified nursing experience.

Previous experience in a referral environment is desirable but not essential.

You will participate in teaching and supervising Veterinary and Veterinary Nursing undergraduates during their clinical rotations.

Flexibility is required as the role involves participation in the Out-Of-Hours (OOH) rota, including some weekend work.

The primary purpose of this role is to support hospital staffing dynamically across various departments, mainly in medicine, surgery/neurology, and theatres. Nurses will be rotated based on clinical and staffing needs, supporting inpatient care, procedures, surgical cases, and hospital maintenance. Participation in an OOH weekend rota is required, working within the RCVS code of conduct.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Perform clinical nursing duties under supervision from senior staff.
  • Administer medications following protocols, maintaining accurate records.
  • Maintain detailed patient records, including clinical notes, treatments, and communications.
  • Ensure accurate invoicing for procedures and consumables.
  • Engage in clinical governance activities like audits, incident reporting, and reflective learning.
  • Keep CPD up-to-date per RCVS guidelines.
  • Supervise and teach veterinary and nursing undergraduates during rotations, acting as a Clinical Coach.
  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding inpatient care and support discharge procedures.
  • Monitor and restock equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Support business improvements and team collaboration.
  • Ensure SOPs are current and relevant.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will be a registered and experienced Veterinary Nurse with at least 12 months in practice, preferably with referral experience. They should possess a relevant qualification (e.g., Advanced Diploma), be RCVS listed, and have experience in clinical coaching. Effective communication skills and a commitment to professional development are essential.
