Job description

Scope of Position at the Retirement Residence (Seniors Home) :

The Health Care Aid (UCP) shall provide personal care and other services to residents in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Home.

MUST have : CPR (First Aide) training Certificate.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Provides services and interacts with residents and resident family members in a professional manner.
  • Complete all assigned paperwork.
  • Participates as a member of the care team and provides support to the other members of the Services team.
  • Observes and adheres to all policies and procedures, work standards and safety regulations.
  • Assists and attends to care needs of the residents as required.
  • Maintains work and storage areas in a clean, safe and sanitary manner.
  • Aware of employees and supervisor’s responsibilities and follows all health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Works safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, co-workers, and residents.
  • Is alert to, remedies, and promptly reports all actual or potentially hazardous situations.
  • Wears personal protective equipment (or clothing) as required by task, MSDS, or home policy.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

Education / Experience :

  • Previous experience in providing personal care.
  • Successful completion of secondary school or equivalent.
  • Preferred post-secondary education in related care fields of PSW / HCA / DSW certification.
  • Must be able to read and communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Demonstrated empathy and understanding of the needs of seniors.
  • Effective interpersonal relationship and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to organize work and work under strict time constraints.
  • Must have a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Must be able to operate related equipment.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift and carrying heavy items.
