Job summary

Canada Cartage is seeking a Night Shift AZ Shunt Driver for local work in Ontario. This role focuses on safety, customer service, and professional operation of shunt and tractor-trailer equipment in a fast-paced environment.

The job requires an AZ license, bondable status, clean CVOR/driver abstract, and 1 year of AZ driving with at least 6 months shunting experience. Lifting up to 50 lbs and Sunday-Thursday night shifts are included.

Qualifications

  • Must have AZ license and be bondable with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum 1 year verifiable AZ driving experience.
  • Minimum 6 months verifiable shunting experience.
  • Ability to perform hand-bombing and load securement tasks.
  • Able to complete eLogs, inspection reports and delivery documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate company vehicles to transport freight locally in Ontario.
  • Move 15–25 trailers per shift using a Shunt Truck, safely and efficiently.
  • Operate Tractor-Trailer equipment per policies and regulations.
  • Park trailers and tidy yard spacing to aid traffic flow.
  • Complete delivery paperwork and e-logs accurately.
  • Maintain hours-of-service compliance and safety policies.
  • Flexibility for variable schedules, overtime, weekends or overnights.

Job description

Position Title: Night ShiftAZ Shunt Driver

Delivery Area: Local

Employment Type: Full-Time

Shift Schedule: 45 hours/Weekly Nights Shifts Sunday to Thursday

Schedule 1: Sunday to Thursday - 10:00pm to 08:00am

Schedule 2: Sunday -10:00pm to 08:00am and from Monday to Thursday - 06:30pm to 04:30am

We are seeking dependable, safety-focused, and customer-oriented drivers to join our growing transportation team. This role is ideal for professionals who take pride in their work, consistently deliver high-quality service, and can operate safely and professionally in a fast-paced environment while representing the company.

Responsibilities
  • Safely operate company vehicles to transport freight across Ontario
  • Moving around 15-25 Trailers per shift using a Shunt Truck in a safe, timely, and professional manner
  • Operate Tractor-Trailer equipment in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Be able to park Trailers efficiently and tidy yard spacing to help traffic flow
  • Transport general freight in accordance with safety and regulatory guidelines
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections of the vehicle, including checking tires, brakes, lights, and cargo securement; promptly report any issues to the maintenance department for timely repairs.
  • Accurately complete all required documentation, including e-logs, inspection reports, delivery paperwork, and incident reports
  • Maintain compliance with hours-of-service regulations, safety policies, and company procedures
  • Maintain flexibility to meet operational and customer demands, including variable schedules, overtime, weekends, or overnight runs as required
Core Requirements
  • Valid AZ driver's license
  • Bondable and legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Clean CVOR and driver’s abstract
  • Verifiable recent commercial driving experience within the past 3 months to 1 year
  • Strong understanding of road safety regulations, hours of service, and load securement
  • Experience operating commercial vehicles in winter driving conditions
  • Ability to accurately complete eLogs, vehicle inspection reports, and delivery documentation
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs as needed
  • Strong customer service and communication skills with a professional, safety-focused approach
Role-Specific Requirements
  • Minimum 1 year of verifiable AZ driving experience
  • Minimum 6 months of verifiable Shunting experience
  • Previous experience operating specialized equipment power and manual pallet jacks, pump trucks
  • Ability to safely perform hand-bombing, including manual loading and unloading of freight, as required
