Overview

MATRIX is a national company providing camps, logistics and aviation management services to a diverse range of clients in the resource and service sectors, focusing on safety, transparency and cost effectiveness. MATRIX is a drug and alcohol-free company with over 250 employees annually. We are seeking Night Bakers on a rotational basis for our MLA Camp located in Bathurst Inlet, Nunavut. Due to remote access to the job sites, resourcefulness is a key aspect to the success of this role. The Night Baker is a team-oriented, motivated person with attention to detail who will play a key role at one of our remote exploration camps for catering. This position is fully remote, in camp.

Responsibilities
  • Assist buffet breakfast with daily special and eggs to order
  • Produce baked goods and desserts from scratch (cookies, square pies, etc.)
  • Produce a variety of bread and buns from scratch
  • Provide input on Breakfast Specials, assisting with menu
  • Practice the first in, first out rotation procedures to support food inventory control
  • Participate in a Food Safety Plan using advanced HACCP recording methods
  • Execute safe food storage and labeling of potential food allergy items
  • Participate in daily toolbox meetings
  • Support monthly worksite inspections as they relate to the kitchen facilities
  • Perform tasks according to safe work practices and safe job procedures
  • Notify Executive Chef and co-workers of any unsafe practices or environment
  • Report all incidents and accidents immediately
  • Practice good housekeeping in the work area at all times
  • Support and assist with coaching and training to other kitchen staff attendants
  • Actively participate as a high performing, team member
Required Knowledge & Experience
  • Minimum of one (1) year working in a similar baking/catering high-volume position
  • Organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Basic computer skills
  • Highly motivated, team-oriented individual
  • Ability to work a rotation schedule
  • Ability to lift and move a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Ability to work and maintain a high level of performance during a 10 - 12 hour shift
  • Comfortable working alone at night
Preferred Licensing & Certifications
  • Culinary Diploma or Red Seal designation is a strong asset
  • WHMIS
  • Standard First Aid with CPR (16hr course)
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate within the last 5 years is required
  • Previous experience working in remote camp setting is required
