L’Arche Homefires is seeking a Night Awake Assistant to join our live-in community in Wolfville. The role involves staying awake overnight, assisting core members, and maintaining a safe, supportive environment.

The successful candidate will participate in ongoing training and documentation, work within a collaborative house team, and help foster meaningful relationships in a shared living setting.

Qualifications

Location: Homefires House

Term: Permanent, 70% FTE

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Contracted Hours: 28.5 hours per week, set schedule

Location and Schedule:

We currently have five L’Arche homes in and around Wolfville where people with and without disabilities live together. Homefires Houseis home to four core members, who share life with a team of live-in and live-out assistants. This is a set ongoing schedule of:

• Friday 10:00 pm – 7:30 am
• Saturday 10:00 pm – 7:30 am
• Sunday 10:00 pm – 7:30 am

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will maintain an awake and alert presence in the home overnight. They will be responsible for light-medium housekeeping duties, personal care, attentiveness to the health and wellness of the core members, provide positive behavior support, and maintain good communication and documentation with the team.

The Night Awake Support will be required to document thorough pass-on in accordance with L’Arche Homefires guidelines. They will work with the House team to build relationships of mutual care and support while being adaptable and respectful of the changing needs of our core members. The Night Awake Assistant is accountable to the House Leader and will participate in regular performance reviews. Night Awake Assistant are expected to ensure completion and maintenance of all eight (8) core competencies as required by Department of Opportunities and Social Development (DSOD) and any assigned Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), online courses will be assigned to complete during the Night Awake shifts wherever possible. Mandatory in person training will be given advance notice.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of L’Arche history, core values, and mission considered an asset or a willingness to engage.
• Post-secondary education or experience in human services, disability support, or similar is considered an asset.
• Ability to effectively articulate thoughts and ideas in a team setting as required and provide clear documentation as required.
• Ability to support the daily functions of a shared living space in a home environment, completing any nighttime duties as required by the House Leader and Day assistants.
• Proficient in computer use, Microsoft 365, online learning platforms and digital documentation processes, with the ability to learn and effectively use additional platforms as required by L’Arche Homefires.
• Ability to be flexible and manage multi-faceted responsibilities in a changing environment and remain calm, focused, and clear in times of crisis.
• Demonstrates initiative, follows direction, and consistently follows through on commitments.
• Open to learn and grow; able to give and receive feedback and address conflict respectfully.
• Committed to lifelong learning, professional and personal development.
• Valid CPR and Standard First Aid (2-Day) certification required.
• Valid NS Driver’s Abstract with access to a reliable and safe vehicle, including 2 million in insurance, is a Bonafide requirement for this role *details provided.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and to safely push, pull, and lift up to 35 lbs.
