Job summary

Nelson House Medicine Lodge in Nelson House, MB, is seeking an Associate Counsellor to support Treatment Counsellors in delivering culturally grounded, client-centered care for NHML treatment participants.

The role collaborates with internal staff and external agencies to ensure accurate reporting on attendance and program completion with client consent, and requires teamwork, cultural sensitivity, and engagement with at-risk populations.

Qualifications

• Completion of a one-year certificate or diploma, with addictions training preferred.
• Knowledgeable in MS Programs; ability to provide online support for Relatives.
• Experience working with at-risk and vulnerable populations is beneficial.

SALARY RANGE: Negotiable, pending education and experience
WORKING HOURS: Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm and 1:00 – 9:00 pm; alternate shifts on weekends, holidays, and on-call.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Associate Counsellor at Nelson House Medicine Lodge provides essential support to the Treatment Counsellors in delivering culturally grounded, client-centered care for individuals participating in NHML treatment programs. This position assists in implementing comprehensive treatment services for Relatives in Recovery living with substance use and concurrent disorders. The Associate Counsellor collaborates with internal staff and external agencies, such as Justice and Child & Family Services, to ensure accurate reporting on attendance and program completion (with client consent). The role requires strong teamwork skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work with at-risk and vulnerable populations.

This position requires human relations skills needed to guide, influence and motivate others to make positive healthy lifestyle changes. They will promote mitho pimatisiwin through role modeling abstinence from drugs and alcohol and demonstrate positive lifestyle choices for a minimum of one (1) year; as well as how to identify, understand, and overcome personal problems associated with substance abuse and other addictive behaviours.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Completion of a one-year relevant certificate or diploma, with addictions training preferred; or any combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, abilities, skills and competencies.
