About Elder Help Peel

Elder Help Peel is a Canadian nonprofit organization founded in 1998. For over 25 years, with its enthusiastic and community-based volunteers, Elder Help Peel (EHP) has provided older adults and seniors age 55+ residing in Peel Region, with caring and compassionate social programs, services, and events. EHP is committed to diversity and inclusion with its focus on interactive social programs and healthcare services which enable seniors to stay socially connected, active, healthy, and engaged in the community.

Volunteer Summary

As a volunteer Content Writer, you will be responsible for creating compelling and informative content that promotes the organization's mission and activities. The volunteer Content Writers will be responsible for producing written content for a variety of platforms, including the organization's monthly newsletter, website, social media channels, campaigns, blog posts and email blasts which will contain significant accomplishments and news within the organization. The ideal candidates will have excellent English verbal and writing skills and computer skills.

Description
  • Develop, create, research, write, manage and post high quality content and material pieces for monthly newsletter, blog posts, articles, social media content, campaigns, email blasts and internal communications on various topics related to seniors about affects of social isolation and loneliness, ageism, health and wellness, volunteerism, social programs and community events.
  • Work collaboratively with our team to brainstorm new topics and ideas for internal and external audiences in support of differing communication objectives.
  • Design newsletter layout and create a calendar for newsletter workflow.
  • Help manage the content funnel, ensuring that articles are published in a timely manner and meet the quality standards of Elder Help Peel.
  • Directly represent the organization’s mission and vision through content writing.
  • Participate in weekly meetings to discuss upcoming projects and assignments, and provide input and feedback as needed.
  • Give back to your community.
  • Networking opportunities within the senior’s community, non-profit sectors and our team.
  • Gain new experiences and personal growth.

  • Support and some training provided.
  • Outstanding volunteers will receive a certificate of acknowledgment and a letter of reference upon completion.
Qualifications

Computer Skills Required:

  • Computer literacy and experience utilizing MS Office 365 software applications.
  • Keyboarding skills 30-40wpm with attention to accuracy, typing with all 10 fingers.
  • Proficiency with Mailchimp, Canva, Zoom, Teams, and various social media.
  • Familiarity with content management systems, such as WordPress is an asset.

Skills and Qualifications Required:

  • Post-secondary education in English, Journalism, Business Administration, Communications, Marketing, Advertising or equivalent field of study OR some experience managing communications within an organization.
  • Fluent in English, written and verbal.
  • Ability to create and write compelling content.
  • Ability to demonstrate brand voice.
  • Excellent writing skills and creativity, with natural ability to write simply in a conversational style.
  • Eye for detail in proofreading and text, and graphics layout.
  • Strong research skills, with the ability to find and analyze information from a variety of sources.
  • Punctual and dependable.
  • Strong creative thinking skills and ability to think conceptually.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently in order to meet content goals and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with others.

Other Requirements:

  • Attend a 45-minute online interview.
  • Provide 2 Canadian references.
  • Current Canadian Police Record Check including Vulnerable Screening naming Elder Help Peel as the agency.
  • Provide copy of Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination (2 doses).
  • Own transportation, vehicle or public transit - travel/parking costs not reimbursed.
  • Bring own laptop to the office.
Time Commitment

This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment.
Shifts are available Anytime.

Training

Orientation: provided upon commencement date of the placement and includes orientation to Elder Help Peel programs, policies, and procedures, meet and greet with staff and organization members.
Training: provided upon commencement, as well as a walkthrough of the duties, with hands-on training and coaching.

Monitoring of volunteers activities and ongoing support daily by supervisor.
Volunteers participate in weekly meetings, additional training and meeting as required.
