Job summary

The Globe and Mail in Toronto is seeking a skilled video editor for a two-year contract to grow our video journalism across Globe-owned and social platforms. You will collaborate with producers, reporters and editors to shape stories from concept through production and publication.

The ideal candidate brings at least three years of editing experience in digital news, strong news judgment, proficiency with Final Cut Pro or Premiere, and the ability to create platform-specific content and motion

Qualifications

At least three years of experience editing video journalism for digital news.
Strong news judgment and commitment to journalistic standards.
Experience editing for YouTube and other digital platforms; understanding of audience engagement.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with producers, reporters and section editors to develop and execute original video stories and series.
Edit compelling video journalism across a range of formats including breaking news, explainers, interviews, and enterprise stories.
Shape stories through strong visual storytelling, pacing and structure; contribute ideas and visual approaches to videos.
Create platform-specific versions of content for social platforms; collaborate on thumbnails, headlines and captions.
Shoot video with reporters in the newsroom.
Perform colour correction, audio mixing and branding for a polished final product.
