North Bay Regional Health Centre, Nickel Lodge, is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses to join a 16-bed Specialized Adult Psychiatric Rehabilitation program. The role emphasizes recovery-oriented care, trauma-informed practice, and effective health teaching for complex mental health and substance use needs.

Required are BLS for Health Care Providers, GPA certification, and experience in mental health, with knowledge of relevant acts (MH Act,

Formación

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse in good standing.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (recent within the last twelve months).
  • Current Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate required.
  • In depth knowledge of psychiatric pathology, psychiatric interviewing /assessment, pharmacological management and required health teaching.
  • Knowledge and application of the Recovery Model required.
  • Experience in a mental health setting required.
  • Knowledge of relevant acts and regulations e.g. Mental Health Act, PHIPA, HCCA, College of Nurses of Ontario standards of practice, etc.

Department: Specialized Adult Rehabilitation - Nickel Lodge

Nickel Lodge is a 16 bed Specialized Adult Psychiatric Rehabilitation program which provides care and support to those with complex mental health problems who often present with a concurrent substance use disorder. This specialized unit is patient driven, recovery-oriented, and integrates patient wishes and goals through a wellness framework. The goal is to optimize the ability to transition into the community, reduce mental health and behavioral challenges, develop and enhance coping skills, teach or resume functional skills, improve relationships and enhance quality of life.

QUALIFICATIONS
Certification/Experience/Knowledge:
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse in good standing
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (recent within the last twelve months)
  • Current Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate required
  • In depth knowledge of psychiatric pathology, psychiatric interviewing /assessment, pharmacological management and required health teaching
  • Knowledge and application of the Recovery Model required
  • Experience in a mental health settingrequired

Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, employees, service providers
  • Understanding of trauma informed care principles and able to apply within all relationships and interactions
  • Ability to work effectively with members of a multi-disciplinary team, including participation in nursing programming
  • Ability to communicate assessment findings and clinical observations with effective documentation
  • Must be willing to work shifts in other programs as required
  • Must demonstrate commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
  • Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
  • Good attendance and work record required
  • Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. *All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.*
