The Department of Internal Medicine at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia is seeking a General Neurologist to join our team. We currently have two full-time clinical Neurologists.
In addition to clinical practice (hospital inpatient consults, on-call, and ambulatory care), there are excellent opportunities to become involved in teaching, as we are closely affiliated with the Northern Medical Program (University of British Columbia), based in Prince George.
We have state-of-the-art Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging facilities. Additionally, we have a well-established neuroelectrophysiology lab with experienced technicians who work closely with our neurologists. Our services include a sub-specialty Memory Clinic and a sub-specialty Multiple Sclerosis Clinic. There will be opportunities to develop stroke and epilepsy programs.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in an on-call schedule and provide hospital consults in addition to ambulatory care.
The University Hospital for Northern British Columbia serves both the immediate population of Prince George (approximately 80,000) and is a referral centre for outlying communities (total population approximately 400,000). It is the main teaching centre for medical students in the Northern Medical Program and provides teaching for University of British Columbia residents in several specialties.
The Department of Internal Medicine currently has 20 members, including 13 internists. Sub-specialties include Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Infectious Disease, Respirology, Neurology, Dermatology, Rheumatology, and Endocrinology. The hospital offers many specialty services such as dialysis, endoscopic ultrasound, bronchoscopy, and echocardiography (including transesophageal). There is potential to develop new services. The hospital also has a fully equipped Intensive Care Unit operated as a Closed Unit, involving many internists, and the BC Cancer Centre for the North, which includes radiation and medical oncology services. This ongoing development as a regional and teaching centre makes it an exciting time to join the medical community in Prince George.
