Description

The Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning is seeking 2 Full-time Limited Term Neurodiversity & Work-Integrated Learning Specialist - Academic Program Support positions for approximately 12 months.

The Work-Integrated Learning for Neurodiverse Students Initiative is hiring 2 Neurodiversity & WIL Specialists to collaboratively transform WIL programming to be neuroinclusive and promote neuro-affirming practices. The University of Calgary's WIL community is extensive, spanning faculties and programs through internships, co-ops, placements, and practicums, facilitated by a diverse network of staff. The Specialist will enhance existing ecosystems, build industry and professional connections, and support neurodivergent students in the workplace.

The Specialist will play a key role in implementing the Initiative's Impact Framework, which includes:

  1. Enhancing neurodiversity awareness at UCalgary
  2. Fostering communication and collaboration within the WIL ecosystem
  3. Developing pathways for neurodivergent students to access and succeed in WIL
  4. Supporting industry and community partners to assist neurodivergent students
  5. Increasing WIL opportunities for neurodivergent students

This involves providing training, workshops, and coaching to WIL practitioners and industry partners, with flexibility to adapt to stakeholder needs throughout the project. The Specialist will also supervise student staff involved in employer engagement, outreach, research, facilitation, and administrative tasks, acting as a mentor and primary contact for students.

Based in Calgary on the Main Campus, the position may require irregular hours and travel within Calgary, reporting to the Associate Director, WIL Initiative.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Academic Program Support

  • Partner with academic units to design or redesign WIL programs.
  • Support academic programs, employers, and community partners with training and coaching.
  • Build relationships within the university and external employers to prepare environments for neurodiverse students.
  • Collaborate with WIL and Neurodiversity Initiative teams and working groups.
  • Assist practitioners and industry partners with accommodations and referrals.
  • Promote an environment of respect, inclusion, and confidentiality.
  • Deliver accessible and inclusive programming.

Program Coordination

  • Develop and implement processes to support academic and industry partners.
  • Manage data collection for reporting and strategic planning.
  • Support WIL placements, including workshops, new pathways, and pilot programs grounded in Universal Design for Learning.
  • Coordinate with communications for content development.
  • Participate in committees and leverage TI resources for training and development.
  • Provide leadership and expertise on neurodiversity.

Student Supervision

  • Supervise student teams supporting the Initiative, delegating tasks and providing training.
  • Mentor and coach students involved in supporting neurodiverse students in WIL.

Qualifications / Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; Master's preferred.
  • At least 2 years' experience in WIL, career development, or academic advising in postsecondary education.
  • Experience working with neurodiverse youth or young adults.
  • Networking experience across sectors.
  • Knowledge of neurodiversity in the workplace and accommodations.
  • Understanding of Universal Design for Learning principles.
  • Experience developing training and group facilitation skills.
  • Strong organizational, detail-oriented, and problem-solving skills.

Assets:

  • Familiarity with university systems (MS Office, PeopleSoft, Qualtrics, Zoom, SharePoint).
  • Knowledge of university culture and strategic plans.
  • Experience working with marginalized populations, including neurodivergent individuals and intersecting identities.
