Who We Are Looking For Rogers is currently seeking a Network Specialist (DevOps) reporting to the Manager of PON Technology & Enterprise Network Operations. The successful candidate will maintain operating excellence through leadership and teamwork in accordance with corporate and departmental objectives, policies and procedures related to customer service, costs, productivity and quality.
We are open to hire for our Calgary or Greater Toronto Area Location. As part of the recruitment process, successful candidates will be required to complete criminal and credit background checks.
What You Will Do
- Serve as top-tier escalation point for fault identification, isolation, analysis, and resolution across IP and Access network platforms.
- Lead design and deployment of cost-effective network architectures for Rogers Enterprise and FTTH infrastructure (Broadband Network Gateway, OLT).
- Prepare comprehensive engineering documentation, including Work Orders, Design Specifications, BOMs, and technical standards.
- Develop and implement automation solutions to streamline equipment turn-up, software upgrades, provisioning, and troubleshooting.
- Plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage network infrastructure projects from inception to deployment.
- Oversee ongoing provisioning activities for FTTH and optimize associated workflows.
- Conduct in-depth performance and fault analysis, recommending innovative resolution strategies through testing and fault reproduction.
- Configure, manage, and maintain IP & Access network elements and technology platforms.
- Support change control processes with impact analysis, method of procedure reviews, implementation, and post-verification.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date network design and support documentation.
- Ensure seamless integration of new technology platforms and services into existing IP & Access networks.
- Design and implement automation tools and scripts using a combination of in-house and open-source technologies.
- Identify new automation opportunities through data-driven analysis to improve workflows and operational efficiency.
- Provide expert-level support in an on-call environment, ensuring rapid response and resolution.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation and corporate policies.
What You Bring
- Degree or Diploma in Networking or Technology.
- Over 5 years of experience in IP-based or Access Network Service Provider environments, preferably in Engineering or Network Operations roles.
- Over 3 years of experience in network programmability and automation within Network Operations, utilizing languages such as Java, Python, Ruby.
- Skilled in SDLC tools including Jenkins, Git, GitHub, and Ansible. Proficient in working with data formats like XML, JSON, and YAML, and experienced with APIs such as NETCONF and RESTCONF, including model-driven architectures using YANG.
- Knowledge of data analytics and streaming telemetry. Experience with log parsing and visualization tools such as Splunk, Grafana, and other.
- Strong competencies in innovation, creative thinking, problem solving, sound judgment, and active listening.
- Hands-on experience with networking technologies including routers, switches, firewalls, routing, subnetting, and core network protocols.
- Deep understanding of TCP / IP and advanced routing protocols OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, EIGRP, MPLS, MPLS VPN, EVPN, FTTH Subscriber Management, and IP Multicasting.
- Practical experience with Nokia (ALU) Service Router 7750 SR and / or OLT systems including XGS-PON and EPON / 10G-EPON architectures; experience with both is considered a strong asset. NRS-II+ / SRA certification also considered an asset.
- Knowledge of DDoS mitigation platforms; experience considered an asset.
- Lean Six Sigma methodology experience; certification considered an asset.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in team environments with a methodical, organized, and professional approach.
- Strong ownership mindset with ability to coordinate and resolve complex network issues.
- Engineering background with proven ability to design, implement, and optimize complex network solutions.
- Expert-level support of change control processes including impact analysis, procedure review, implementation, and verification.
- Exceptional analytical and structured troubleshooting skills.
- Effective communicator with strong oral and written communication abilities.
