Job Purpose

The Network Engineer III serves as a senior technical resource within the OnX Canada infrastructure team. In addition to advanced troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance, this role leads network design, high-level architecture planning, and complex project execution. The Engineer III will serve as a subject matter expert, mentor junior engineers, and ensure customer networks operate at peak efficiency and security.

Essential Functions
  • Lead complex network design, configuration, and implementation projects.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for critical issues.
  • Oversee creation and maintenance of system documentation, diagrams, and operational procedures.
  • Perform network capacity analysis and proactively plan upgrades or adjustments.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for Network Engineers II and other team members.
  • Participate in and lead on-call support rotations for critical incidents.
  • Perform onsite work at customer locations and oversee vendor coordination.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Cisco CCNP (required) or CCIE certification strongly preferred.
  • Network+ certification.
Experience / Background
  • 7+ years enterprise IT infrastructure networking experience.
  • Proven experience in mission-critical, 24x7 high availability environments.
  • Mastery of troubleshooting tools such as ping, traceroute, nslookup, dig, Wireshark.
  • Advanced understanding of IP subnetting and variable length subnet masks.
  • Expertise with dynamic routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, RIP) and longest-match qualifier concepts.
  • Advanced experience with wireless controllers and access points administration and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco ACI configuration and management.
  • In-depth working knowledge of Cisco technologies: Catalyst, Nexus, Umbrella, Wireless, Catalyst Center, ISE, SNA.
  • Strong experience setting up WAN connections, site-to-site VPNs, and client VPNs.
  • Advanced knowledge of stateful and next-generation firewalls (Fortigate, Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, FTD+FMC, CheckPoint).
  • Significant experience with hybrid or blended cloud/on-prem environments (AWS, Azure).
Special Knowledge / Skills
  • Ability to design, review, and optimize enterprise-scale network architectures.
  • Skilled in mentoring and leading technical teams.
  • Strong documentation and communication abilities.
  • Advanced vendor management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Additional industry certifications (AWS, Microsoft) are a strong asset.
  • ITIL certification preferred.

The pay range for this role is:

88,000 - 110,000 CAD per year (Toronto Office - NOC)
