Hiboo Networks Inc. is seeking a Network Engineer - Co-op to join our Ottawa team and help establish and grow our service provider network across routing, switching, security, and DDI.

You will assist with provisioning, monitoring, and maintenance, and collaborate with internal and external resources in Hiboo’s early days of operations. The role offers a 4- or 8-month term with a January 2027 start date and potential remote/home-office work in Ottawa, with occasional meetings at the Kanata

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a university Computer Science program (3rd or 4th year preferred).
  • Strong understanding of network concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, Ethernet, DNS, DHCP).
  • Programming or scripting experience (Python, Ansible, C++ or similar).
  • Strong communications and problem-solving skills; able to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Support Senior Network Architect and Engineers in developing the product architecture and technology roadmap.
  • Assist in planned network maintenance tasks and provisioning activities.
  • Help develop tools and procedures to respond to network faults and support MACD for customer connections.
  • Monitor and configure network devices and provisioning of new elements.
  • Assist in automation tool development and scripting for operational efficiency.
  • Contribute to incident response and root-cause analysis for network issues.

Job Summary

Hiboo Networks Inc. is currently searching for a talented individual to join our team as a Network Engineer - Co-op. You will play a critical role in the Network Engineering team in helping the company establish, maintain, and grow its Service Provider Network technology stack across Routing, Switching, Security, and DDI. This position will also play a key role in supporting Network Operations through maintenance and provisioning activities. This role will have the unique opportunity to work with both internal and external resources to implement customer connections, support new designs, and support network maintenance tasks, all as part of the company’s early days of operations.

The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to develop their skills as a Network Engineer - Co-op within a service provider network and work with leading technology providers to help drive the roadmap into the future.

Here’s What You Will Do
  • Support the Senior Network Architect and Senior Engineers in the development of the overall product architecture & technology roadmap.
  • Support planned network maintenance activities with major and minor maintenance tasks.
  • Assist in the development of tools and procedures to respond to network faults, and act as support person in the response.
  • Support the monitoring and configuration of network devices, including the provisioning of new elements.
  • Support the tools used to monitor and report on network usage by customers for billing purposes, and network performance for capacity management.
  • Execute procedures and tests for acceptance testing of new connections and devices into the network on behalf of the NOC.
  • Support Network Operations in Moves, Adds, Changes, and Deletions (MACD) of customer connections and the end-to-end provisioning processes.
  • Assist in the improvement of operational efficiency through the development of automation tools, scripts, and templates.
  • Participate in the response team during major incidents affecting the network, drive towards identification of the root cause, and execution of remediation activities.
  • Support technical change management, through participation of the planning, review, and approval of network change implementation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date network documentation, including changes, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Assist in the implementation of security policies and procedures.
  • Participate in training programs, and industry forums to enhance skills and knowledge regarding the latest networking technologies and trends.
  • Support in configuration and maintenance of our Virtualization infrastructure.
Here’s What You Need – Skills and Qualifications
  • Education: Currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational program at a university in Computer Science (3rd and 4th year students are preferred).
  • Networking Knowledge: Strong understanding of network concepts and protocols such as TCP/IP, Ethernet, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Programming Skills: Experience with programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, Ansible, C++, or similar).
  • Soft Skills: Strong communications and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
