Our client is currently seeking an experienced Network Designer – Structured Cabling & IT Infrastructure to support their Information Technology Services department by coordinating the design, planning, implementation, testing, commissioning and acceptance of structured cabling and associated physical IT infrastructure. Projects will involve new construction, building renovations, office relocations, technology deployments and network infrastructure improvements. Working closely with Facilities, architects, engineers, consultants, cabling contractors and internal IT teams, the Network Designer will ensure that infrastructure requirements are properly incorporated into project designs and delivered in accordance with established technical standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structured cabling and telecommunications infrastructure, experience interpreting construction and technical drawings, and the ability to coordinate contractors and oversee infrastructure installations from initial design through final acceptance.

  • Review architectural, electrical, communications and construction drawings to ensure IT infrastructure requirements are incorporated into project designs.
  • Coordinate the placement and design requirements for network outlets, wireless access points, emergency communication systems, audiovisual (AV) equipment and security infrastructure.
  • Review and assess cable pathways, conduits, cable trays, J-hooks, telecommunications rooms, network racks and associated physical infrastructure.
  • Coordinate copper and fibre-optic cabling projects throughout the project lifecycle, including design, procurement, installation, testing, commissioning and final acceptance.
  • Review contractor drawings, quotations, bills of materials and proposed installation methodologies to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate and oversee cabling vendors, contractors and technical teams to ensure installations meet approved designs, specifications and project standards.
  • Monitor installation progress, identify deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions with contractors and project stakeholders.
  • Verify cabling testing, certification, labelling and documentation requirements.
  • Maintain infrastructure drawings, test results, deficiency logs and as-built documentation.
  • Coordinate network infrastructure activities involving switches, Power over Ethernet (PoE), wireless access points, patching and connectivity.
  • Support Move, Add and Change (MAC) requests, including requirements gathering, estimates, scheduling, vendor coordination and project closeout.
  • Perform basic physical network activities when required, including Ethernet patching and connectivity verification.
  • Coordinate final project acceptance, documentation and handover to operational support teams.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience coordinating structured cabling, telecommunications, network infrastructure or technology components of construction and renovation projects.
  • Strong knowledge of structured cabling infrastructure, including copper and fibre-optic cabling systems.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing and interpreting architectural, electrical, communications and construction drawings.
  • Experience coordinating infrastructure designs, installation activities and technical requirements across multiple stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications rooms, cable pathways, conduits, cable trays, J-hooks, network racks, patch panels and associated infrastructure.
  • Experience coordinating cabling contractors, consultants, vendors and Facilities teams.
  • Understanding of cabling testing, certification, commissioning, deficiency resolution and final acceptance processes.
  • Familiarity with network infrastructure requirements, including switches, wireless access points, PoE, AV systems and security infrastructure.
  • Strong project coordination, documentation, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities, work independently and coordinate work in active construction and operational environments
