Summary

We are currently recruiting a Network Administrator for our Spartan IT department in Calgary. Reporting to the Manager of Information Services and working within the infrastructure team, the successful candidate will ensure the stable operation of the in-house computer network. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links.

Role And Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

  • Perform network design and capacity planning
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for network resource administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery
Acquisition & Deployment

  • Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services
  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts
  • Help support various cloud initiatives as they are developed
Operational Management

  • Ensure network connectivity of all servers and workstations for 15 offices in western Canada
  • Manage all network hardware and equipment, including firewalls, routers, switches, hubs, VPN, and UPSs
  • Troubleshoot network outages
  • Administer all network equipment, hardware, and software upgrades
  • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information
  • Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs
  • Share in the on-call rotation
  • Some periodic travel to regional offices required
Qualifications And Skills

Formal Education & Certification

  • Post-secondary education, preferably in Computing Science, Computer Engineering, or networking
  • 10+ years as a network administrator
Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience working with HP network equipment or equivalent
  • Experience working in a multi-site WAN that crosses provincial borders
  • Strong knowledge and experience with VPN and firewall technology
  • Experience with MPLS and QoS an asset
  • Experience with a VOIP phone system would be an asset
  • Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience
