Job Summary

Acumen is seeking a driven and knowledgeable NERC Compliance Manager to join our team (remote position with travel to client sites required). The ideal candidate will be responsible for guiding our clients in achieving and maintaining compliance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Standards, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Standards, and various Regional criteria pertaining to power system reliability.

The successful candidate must have a degree in Electrical Engineering, Business, or related discipline, with experience in the electric utility industry, specifically pertaining to Reliability Compliance and NERC Standards.

We have clients across North America and travel is required for this position. The successful candidate must be able to obtain the appropriate work permits.

Responsibilities and Duties

Regulatory Compliance

  1. Plan, organize and provide consulting services to clients for Acumen’s Regulatory Compliance Practice Area
  2. Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure clients' compliance with FERC, NERC, and Regional Reliability Standards
  3. Coordinate evidence collection and management for various NERC functional entity clients
  4. Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with compliance issues
  5. Develop and implement tailored compliance policies and procedures
  6. Stay up to date with regulatory changes and updates, ensuring clients’ ongoing compliance
  7. Prepare and submit necessary reports and documentation to regulatory authorities on behalf of clients
  8. Deliver training and educational programs to client teams on compliance standards and requirements
  9. Actively participate in industry working groups and forums to stay updated on evolving standards and best practices

Marketing & Business Development

  1. Analyze opportunities in accordance with established Acumen market plans in order to identify potential clients
  2. Analyze potential client requirements and assist in developing/delivering competitive proposals
  3. Participate in meetings, seminars, conferences, and other general marketing activities
  4. Assist with the development and documentation of market strategies

General

  1. Project/client management
  2. Willingness to learn other Acumen services such as operational technology, cyber security, and energy solutions/services
Qualifications and Skills
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Business, or related discipline
  2. Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in the electric utility industry
  3. General working knowledge of power system operations, transmission, generation, distribution, and an understanding of power systems engineering
  4. Experience with FERC/NERC Reliability Standards and the various Regional criteria
  5. Understanding of electric system engineering technical issues and operations
  6. Knowledgeable in Regulatory obligations, organization and processes in the utility sector, and ability to evaluate and interpret new or evolving reliability standards
  7. Knowledgeable in NERC audit processes including NERC RSAW development and audit evidence collection
  8. Experience in consulting, sales and marketing preferred
  9. Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills
  10. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  11. Analytical thinking and critical problem-solving skills
  12. Strong attention to detail
  13. Excellent organizational and time management skills
  14. Must pass a criminal, cross-identity and financial security clearance check
  15. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment with minimal physical effort required; remote work schedule
  16. Visits to industrial client sites required; appropriate personal protective equipment will be provided
  17. The candidate must be capable and willing to travel anywhere in North America or internationally by commercial airline, auto, or other designated mode of transportation, on relatively short notice
