A career as a Senior Advisor Estates Specialist in the Risk team at National Bank Independent Network (NBIN) involves acting as an expert in estate administration and settlement in Canada. You will lead the NBIN Estates Centre of Expertise, creating efficiencies and resources to ensure consistent and empathetic service to clients. Your problem-solving, analytical skills, and experience in financial services or the legal field, particularly in estates matters, will positively impact our business and clients.

Your role

1. Provide support and expertise on all estates matters for NBIN Service teams and client firms.
2. Develop resources and training materials for colleagues and clients.
3. Review and approve exceptions such as Waiver of Probate, missing documents, procedural exceptions, and unusual cases.
4. Collaborate with the Operations Estates team to establish and implement best practices.
5. Support NBIN’s registered plan beneficiary designation program.
6. Review and manage NBIN’s existing beneficiary designations for non-residents and Quebec-residents, including developing risk tolerance, overseeing reviews, and managing backlog review and remediation.

Your team

The Senior Advisor Estates Specialist reports to the Senior Manager, Risk. The NBIN Risk team oversees operational risk within NBIN, a division of National Bank Financial Inc., which provides broker, trading, and custodial services across Canada.

Prerequisites

• 7+ years managing estates in financial services or legal fields.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and in teams.
• Leadership qualities, efficiency, value addition, and dedication.
• Experience in policy and procedure writing and optimization.
• Legal qualifications such as lawyer, paralegal, or notary are assets.
• Professional-level French communication skills are assets.
