Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in Naval Architecture or related field.
  • Experience with SOLAS/ISO/IACS standards used in naval architecture.
  • Minimum 2 years in a people or resource management role.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication.

**Naval Architecture Sub-Discipline Manager****Position Summary**Thales Canada Defence & Security (TCDS) is looking for a Naval Architecture Sub-Discipline Manager to provide resource management to the Naval Architecture team.The Naval Architecture Sub-Discipline Manager provides Naval Architecture leadership and support for Thales Canada’s ongoing projects throughout their respective life cycles; from requirements analysis and design, through development, integration, test and acceptance.The Naval Architecture Sub-Discipline Manager supports the Manager, Naval Architecture in inspiring and catalyzing the improvement of best practices, processes, tools and governance within the Naval Architecture discipline, ensuring that they are effectively deployed, mastered, and continuously improved.They act as a primary point of contact on complex subjects and take on an educational role so that their team can reach discipline excellence and deliver competitive solutions within a multidisciplinary environment. They are a mentor and coach - serving the discipline’s engineers and offering a diverse and inclusive environment. They are the guardians of an engineering discipline excellence in a learning environment which contribute to our highly competitive advantage.The Naval Architecture Sub-Discipline Manager reports to the Manager, Naval Architecture.**Regulatory Compliance Requirement**This position requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software or technical information controlled under the Canadian Export Control List and/or the US the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). All applicants must be eligible or able to obtain authorization for such access.**Key Areas of Responsibility**The main responsibilities are:As a **Resource Manager**,* Coordinate appropriate resources to deliver bids, projects and products;* Plans the team’s workload in the short, medium and long term;* Develops team skills to support bids, projects and products;* Supports recruitment, onboarding, performance management, career management and succession planning for the team;* Coaches, mentors and develops the team;* Leads the team to meet company expectations for productivity, chargeability, quality, continuous improvement and accomplishment of objectives;* Ensures that company policies and procedures are followed, including timesheets, time off, and travel;As an **Engineering Manager**, supports the Manager, Naval Architecture* In the establishment, standardization and evolution of processes, procedures and tooling for the discipline* In ensuring that the discipline processes, procedures and tooling meet the current and future needs of the bids, projects and products* In the development of lessons learned and the sharing of knowledge and experience across the discipline* Foster continuous improvement based on root cause analysis, problem solving and new practice deployment* For developing bid, project and product estimates for the discipline and sub-disciplinesAs a **member of the Naval Architecture team*** Performing Life Cycle and Materiel Management functions for platforms including but not limited to new vessel addition, obsolescence, environmental assessment, and vessel disposal management.* Manage the preparation and updating of marine system technical documentation including manufacturing drawings, design and materiel specifications, installation and maintenance instructions, and test and trials documentation.* Conduct technical investigations into problems associated with hull repair and marine equipment and/or system malfunction, including failure and root cause analysis, risk assessments, and solution development.* Prepare stability calculations for vessels undergoing towing and docking evolutions.* Prepare documented work scopes suitable for solicitation of quotations from external resources such as OEM’s, manufacturers, suppliers, repair and testing facilities, or specialist service providers.* Prepare technical proposals and cost estimates for Customer approval.* Development and review of Engineering plans, processes and procedures.* Assure compliance with applicable standards including SOLAS, Classification Society, and Naval Ship Code.**Minimum Requirements*** An engineering degree or technical program diploma in Naval Architecture or a related technical field from a recognized university or college program;* Expertise with industry standard Naval Architecture tools and standards (SOLAS, LSA, ISO, IACS, etc.);* A minimum of 2 years of experience as a people or resource manager;* Strong written and verbal communication skills in English;**Preferred Qualifications*** A Master’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field* Professional Engineer (P. Eng) designation (or eligibility for licensure in a Canadian province)* Experience in the Defence industry* Familiarity with shipboard installation practices, naval classification society expectations, and platform integration constraints.* Fluency in French* Recent experience responsible for a Naval Architecture team and/or Naval Architecture functions;**Special Position Requirements*** Travel: Occasional national and international travel. About 4 times per year.The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between Total Target Cash (TTC) $115,000 - $130,000 -$140,000 CAD Annual.This reflects how companies in a similar industry and geographic region generally pay for similar jobs. This range helps the Company make pay decisions as one data point among many. Where a position falls within this range is also dependent on other factors including – but not limited to – the employee’s career path history, competencies, skills and performance, as well as the company’s annual salary budget, the customer’s program requirements, and the company’s internal equity.
