Job summary

Irving Shipbuilding is seeking a Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering student to join the Hull Engineering team. You will support design, construction, testing and delivery of vessels for the Royal Canadian Navy and Coast Guard, review calculations, and assist with production and commissioning activities.

You will collaborate with experienced engineers, manage vendor scope, and contribute to large-scale marine projects while gaining hands-on experience in office and industrial settings.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering degree program.
• 0-2 years of relevant experience welcomed.
• Interest in the marine or defense industry.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and open to learning new tools.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical project manager for vendor scope of supply for the assigned systems.
• Interface with shipyard production and planning teams to ensure the outfitting design products reflect limitations and build methodology.
• Oversee design agent progress of system maturity and design deliverables.
• Originate routine or low complexity deliverables including specifications, drawings, reports.
• Identify opportunities for Continuous Improvement within their engineering discipline.
• Author processes and procedures documenting recurring engineering support and deliverables.
• Identify technical risks and develop mitigation plans; make risk-based technical decisions.
