What you’ll do
- Prepare documentation, budgets, standards, guidelines, and contract specifications for biological resource and environmental protection measures; oversee, inspect, and administer programs and projects to meet environmental plans, objectives, and regulatory requirements.
- Undertake in-depth studies on the environmental impact of major programs and future Hydro facilities.
- Develop standards and strategies influencing the biological environment; respond to unforeseen environmental concerns not covered by existing regulations.
- Ensure consistency in environmental inspection protocols, report preparation, and liaise with outside groups and BC Hydro staff.
- Facilitate meetings with government agency representatives to determine and incorporate regulatory requirements and compliance options.
- Respond in the field to unforeseen environmental concerns, coordinate mitigation, and manage communication.
- Provide technical direction to external consultants, crew leaders, and staff to ensure standards and quality control.
- Provide work leadership to and perform all functions of the Natural Resource Specialist 3 role.
- Perform minor duties related to the above that do not affect the job rating.
What you bring
- Bachelor's degree in Natural Resource or Environmental Studies with at least 8 years of relevant experience, or Technologist Diploma with 9 years of relevant experience.
- Eligibility for membership with the College of Applied Biology.
- Valid BC Driver’s License.

Additional information
- This position is affiliated with the Movement of United Professionals union (MoveUP / COPE).
- Full-time temporary (FTT) MoveUP Group 12 at Edmonds, Burnaby, for approximately 12 months.
- Maintain Class 5 driver’s license in good standing.
- Eligible for membership with the College of Applied Biology or qualified under a recognized natural resource professional association.
- Approximately 10-25% of time outside the Lower Mainland, in various weather conditions, and some travel.
