Job description
Overview

We are seeking a National Director Disability Consulting to join our team in Burlington, Toronto, Calgary or Edmonton. The National Director Disability Consulting will lead our disability consulting and disability service managing the portfolio across Canada. This role is an integral part of the broader Disability Management Division led by our Partner Firm Organizational Solutions Inc.

Responsibilities
  • Create, lead and maintain a high-performance team of disability consultants, disability specialists, disability service advisors and other support functions
  • Work with clients, internal consultants and the business development team to perform client needs analysis to ensure clients' requirements are fully understood and represented in the design of solutions relating to disability and absence management
  • Analyze client strategic goals and concerns and recommend innovative solutions
  • Conduct audits, benchmarking and analysis as it relates to disability performance and make recommendations for the client to manage matters of concern
  • Work closely with the team, internal partners and the management team on process improvement, team building and client servicing
  • Play a lead role in the design and management of group disability and time off plans for clients including benefit plan analysis, design, cost savings and funding strategies
  • Handle vendor procurement, negotiation and optimization
  • Incorporate specialized strategies across health management, absence and disability programs, pharmacy and extended health benefits as well as leverage data analytics and ensure compliance with relevant policies and regulations
  • Support and resolve escalations of client challenges with a focus on resolution and ongoing improvement of the client experience
  • Maintain and cultivate strong relationships with carriers
  • Support the generation of new business by participating in prospecting opportunities with new clients as part of a broader team
  • Ensure disability service team is focused on disability management aspects working with the Insurers or Third-Party Providers to reach the best outcomes such as building expectation documents and Key Performance Metrics for the providers
  • Provide training sessions for clients to enhance knowledge surrounding disability plan design, interaction with the CBA and ultimately the disability process
  • Build overall disability and absence management strategy that is relevant to today’s market and best practices, and contemplate future states in conjunction with the Organizational Solutions Inc. leadership team
  • Build relationships internally and collaborate effectively on all cross-functional teams
Qualifications & Requirements
  • 10 years of industry knowledge and experience in Disability Management or a combination of experience and education
  • Registered professional status within the disability management or professional health sector along with additional coursework in occupational health, rehabilitation, legislation related to disability management, human resource management or disability insurance
  • Labour relations experience and/or education would be an asset
  • CDMP or NIDMAR would be considered an asset
  • Experience partnering with Third Party Providers to affect positive change
  • Strong understanding of benefits administration systems
  • Willingness and ability to advocate for employer/employee vs. carriers/third-party providers
  • Proven people leadership with the aptitude to lead, motivate, coach, support and guide staff
  • Proactive professional always willing to be on top of emerging best practices for areas of responsibility
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills
  • Ability to actively embrace and manage change, resolve complex problems and work well under pressure
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills; able to work well alone and in a team setting
  • Ability to work within set procedures and policies to ensure privacy protocols and standard operating procedures are adhered to at all times
  • Ability to meet deadlines and provide deliverables as identified in a timely manner
