Mental Health Capacity Building Programs

Position: 2 Permanent Full-Time (12-month positions)

Start Date: ASAP

Medicine Hat Public School Division is seeking two (2) Permanent Full-Time Success Coaches to continue the work of our MyPlace program. The Mental Health Capacity Building Programs are grant-funded through Recovery Alberta to provide school-based addiction and mental health promotion and prevention for children, youth, and families. The successful candidates will develop and deliver developmentally appropriate, evidence-based programming for students that aligns with the program's mandate and the school's needs.

Success Coaches play a crucial role in building capacity within the school and the wider community by increasing awareness and enhancing skills related to optimal mental health. They facilitate meaningful discussions, deliver workshops, and provide resources to empower the school community to prioritize mental well-being. They contribute to fostering a nurturing and mentally healthy environment for students, staff, and the broader community.

Position Details:

  • Permanent full-time, 37.5 hours per week
  • Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM (flexibility to work outside these hours as required)

Salary & Benefits:

  • $42,230 - $51,294 (salary placement depends on experience)
  • Full healthcare benefits including extended health, dental, life, and disability insurance, starting upon employment. The division covers 100% of the ASEBP benefits premium and 85% of dental premiums.

  • Participation in the LAPP pension plan after 1 year of service

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Delivering programming and public speaking
  • Working with Elementary, Junior High, and High School students
  • Understanding developmental, educational, emotional, social, and recreational needs of children, youth, and families
  • Working across multiple schools
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends for events
  • Working independently and in teams
  • Developing and implementing universal mental health programs
  • Knowing community resources to meet needs
  • Participating in recreational activities during summer with students and families

Education & Qualifications:

  • Diploma in health or social sciences considered an asset
  • Knowledge of addiction and mental health services
  • Reliable vehicle, valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Current First Aid and CPR
  • Current Assist Training
  • Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) & Child Intervention Check
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills

Experience:

  • Minimum two years in addiction, mental health, or related health/human services role
  • Experience working with teens in various group settings
  • Comfortable public speaker capable of delivering presentations
  • Ability to collaborate with community agencies
  • Proficient with technology (Google email, internet)
