Accountable directly to the Board of Directors, the President and CEO leads the development of the company’s priorities and objectives. As the strategic visionary, the President and CEO is responsible for continuously improving the organization’s business model for the benefit of its Policyholder community. The role involves establishing long-term relationships with distribution partners, stakeholders, and service providers to ensure profitability and a strong market position.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with other executives to define the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Establish operational plans that ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and risk management.
  • Oversee annual budgets with the CFO for capital and operating expenditures.
  • Report regularly to the Board on strategic and operational performance.
  • Maintain open communication with the Board about business activities, threats, and opportunities.
  • Secure stakeholder commitment to change initiatives.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and counseling to employees on financial issues.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements of Canadian mutual insurance companies.
  • Guide and develop subordinate executives and managers.
  • Review performance, perform root cause analysis, and implement remedial actions.
  • Coordinate with departmental leaders on spending, budgeting, and operational excellence.
  • Maintain relationships with government agencies and professional organizations.
  • Oversee financial accountability and controls, ensuring statutory compliance.
  • Build partnerships with Brokers, Agents, reinsurers, and political representatives.
  • Represent the company in industry forums and share industry information with leadership.
  • Act as the company’s chief spokesperson at the operational level.
  • Manage human resources and financial management functions.

Preferred Experience and Education

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual with extensive operational management experience at the senior level within a respected medium-sized Canadian mutual insurance company. The candidate will work closely with the Board and a dedicated senior leadership team.

  • Proven experience managing a medium-sized company.
  • Minimum university degree in commerce or administration, with at least 10 years of management experience and 5 years in a senior role; MBA is an asset.
  • Chartered Insurance Professional designation or equivalent is preferred.
  • Understanding of the general and mutual insurance industries is advantageous.
  • Strong organizational management and coaching skills.
  • Deep experience in forecasting and fiscal management.
  • Decisive, analytical, and able to prioritize effectively.
  • Experience leading organizational transformation projects.
  • Commitment to collaboration, quality, and data-driven evaluation.
