Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Music Therapist to join the BC Psychosis Program team at UBC Hospital in Vancouver, BC. Apply today to join our team!

As a Music Therapist with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate client treatment plans and provide music therapy to promote, maintain, and restore client’s mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and approved research, provide formal and informal consultations to other staff/community music therapists and supervise and evaluate the work activities of music therapy practicum students and interns.
  • Collaborate with the Patient Services Manager regarding operational issues and concerns and with the Regional Allied Health Practice Director, and the Regional Music Therapy Council for practice issues and concerns.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Completion of a program accredited by the Canadian Association of Music Therapy.
  • Two years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Eligible for registration with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists (CAMT).

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness.
  • Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide music therapy to clients in an acute, rehabilitation and/or continuing care settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in piano, guitar and voice.
  • Broad knowledge of music therapy theory and practice.
  • Broad knowledge of harmony, theory and history.
  • Broad knowledge of symptoms, problems and needs associated with disabilities and illnesses.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate and coach.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Broad knowledge of the range of improvisation styles.
  • Broad knowledge of solo and ensemble playing, composition and conducting.
  • Broad knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Basic computer literacy with word processing and database skills.
  • General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check. As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
