Position overview

Position title: Ensembles Pre-six Lecturer

Salary range: A reasonable estimate for an appointment to teach a standard five-credit course is $8,531-$10,492 (based on salary points 1-8). Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year.

Percent time: Variable, based on the course load assigned.

Anticipated start: Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit's instructional need and the availability of funding. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments made in fall quarter 2024 through fall quarter 2025. Initial appointments outside this period will require an alternative open recruitment.

Position duration: Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the academic year (fall, winter, spring), but may also be during Summer Session.

Position description

The Department of Music at UCSC invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers to teach performance practice workshops and ensembles at various levels. We seek candidates with relevant teaching experience in ensembles such as Gamelan, Jazz, Mariachi, Wind Ensemble, Ghanaian Drumming, etc., or workshops like North Indian Music, Songwriting, Improvisation, Music and Ocean, Hip-Hop, etc. Candidates with college-level teaching experience or who can contribute to diversity and excellence in our programs are encouraged to apply. Internal candidates will be prioritized.

Basic qualifications: Master's Degree in music or equivalent, or four years of artistic/creative work with a record of performances/exhibitions/publications in music.
