YCW JOB OPPORTUNITY: Museum Interpreter and Curatorial Assistant

Caetani Cultural Centre, Vernon, BC

Term: May 05 – August 22, 2025

Salary: $17.85 per hour

The Caetani Centre is seeking to recruit an intern eligible through the Young Canada Works program for a summer placement as a Museum Interpreter and Curatorial Assistant. This is a full-time position (35 hours per week) from May 05 to August 22.

ABOUT THE POSITION: The Museum Interpreter and Curatorial Assistant will be part of our interpretive team, guiding members of the public, special interest groups, and dignitaries through the museum while interpreting the story of the Caetani family in the context of world history and events, and presenting the Caetani collections, objects, and artwork.

The successful candidate will assist in the research of various objects and archival documents in our collection with the aim of designing, revising and developing exhibits and interpretive storytelling mediums for the public. They will have the opportunity to complete a curatorial interpretive project or exhibit in the form or media of their choice, with the assistance of staff.

Other duties include assistance with admissions, gift shop sales, volunteer recruiting, fundraising, public relations, and event management. General light duties for venue and garden maintenance may be required.

ABOUT YOU: The ideal candidate for the position will be curious, creative, congenial, eager to learn, and willing to become an ambassador and storyteller (both in person and through our interpretive displays). The ideal candidate should possess a keen interest in the arts, culture, local heritage and international history, and the educational role of museums and cultural institutions. You will have excellent communication skills, some experience in public speaking, strong writing and graphic design skills, an awareness of current cultural and social interests and issues, and a commitment to inclusive and respectful community engagement.

An intermediate-level understanding of Microsoft Office, archival research methods, online resources, presentation technologies, digital media editing, and website and graphic design would be an asset. Additional language competency in French or Italian would be beneficial but is not required.

Candidates will be ideally studying in the field of History, Museum Studies, Art History, Studio Art, Performing Arts, Archival Studies, or a related discipline, and should have a strong appreciation for the value and importance of arts, culture, and heritage. The candidate must be a full-time student prior to and following the work term.

The Caetani Centre strives to be an equitable employer and strongly encourages members of groups under-represented in careers related to museums and cultural institutions to apply.
