The Museum of Anthropology's (MOA) mission is to promote awareness and understanding of culturally diverse ways of knowing the world through challenging and innovative programs and partnerships with Indigenous, local and global communities. MOA resides on the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the Musqueam Nation. Its longstanding relationships with Musqueam and other First Nations communities in BC have informed its history and professional practices and enable MOA to play a leading role in shaping collaborative approaches to museology, heritage preservation and interpretation.
The Museum of Anthropology at UBC is hiring a Museum Education Assistant to support the development, delivery and evaluation of MOA's 2025/2026 K-12 educational offerings. This is an early-career position working in the Programming + Engagement Department under the supervision of the Curator of Education.
The position begins on July 7, 2025 and ends March 27, 2026, with the possibility of extension.
Orientation and training will include a combination of guided, hands-on and self-directed learning. The Museum Education Assistant will receive tours of the Museum and will shadow school programs facilitated by the Curator of Education. They will be provided with training and reference resources, including program outlines, intern manuals, and background readings.

The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, open-minded, and passionate about arts, culture and lifelong learning. They have background knowledge in topics pertaining to Indigenous histories, cultures, and contemporary issues, with lived experience considered a strong asset. Through their actions and relationships, they contribute to a culturally safe, inclusive, equitable working environment. Excellent public speaking and organizational skills are required. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively is a must. A keen interest in engaging with children is essential, and experience working with children and in facilitating learning are strong assets:
Education:
The candidate will have post-secondary school experience in any of the following: education, Indigenous studies, art, anthropology, history, geography, cultural studies, and/or museum education. The candidate will be familiar with Adobe Creative Suite, and proficient in Microsoft Word and web-based and library research. In addition, the candidate must have strong written and oral communication skills.
