Job description

The Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame is a not-for-profit organization that honours, preserves and promotes Nova Scotia's rich sport heritage by offering programming including a free-admission museum, a free province-wide education program, and a large collection that is entirely accessible to the public online.

Museum Assistant - Summer Student Position

June 2 - August 22, 2025

$17/hour - 35 hours/week

The job of the Museum Assistant is:

  • Assist with the execution of a major collections storage move and reorganization
  • Organize digital files related to collections
  • Assist with collections acquisitions and deaccessions, reconciling old loans and incomplete donation records, and updates to the collections database
  • Assist with exhibit development and installation for a major museum renovation
  • Assist with fundraiser and revenue generation administration
  • Assist with programming and events as needed

Candidates must be eligible for the Young Canada Works (YCW) grant, and must apply through the YCW platform.

To be eligible for a YCW summer job, an applicant must:

  1. be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible);
  2. be legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number);
  3. be between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment; and
  4. be a full-time student, returning to studies in the fall.

Note: Priority will be given to graduates that have not previously participated in YCW internship programs and that are unemployed or underemployed.

  • The ideal candidate will have background education and/or work experience in museums, archives, libraries, and/or galleries.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong computer skills, writing skills, research skills and organizational skills.
