Regional District of Mount WaddingtonManager of Parks and Recreation2044 McNeill Road, Port McNeill, British Columbia, V0N 2R0Salary Range: $80,000 - $110,000Full-Time | Management-Exempt | Pension & Benefits EligibleThe OpportunityThe Regional District of Mount Waddington (RDMW) is seeking a strategic and operationally focused leader to oversee the Parks & Recreation department. This high-impact role is responsible for the management of the Chilton Regional Arena and all parks-related infrastructure and programming. Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Manager of Parks & Recreation plays a critical role in enhancing quality of life for residents and visitors through the delivery of safe, sustainable, and inclusive recreation services.Key Responsibilities Lead day-to-day operations, staffing, training, scheduling, and performance evaluation for parks and arena teams Oversee asset maintenance, lifecycle planning, and capital upgrades for the Chilton Regional Arena and all parks infrastructure Develop and implement community programming, recreation strategies, and facility improvement plans aligned with organizational priorities Ensure full regulatory compliance across operations?including WorkSafeBC, public health, BC Building Code, and safety standards Prepare and administer operating and capital budgets; develop grant applications and ensure fiscal accountability Act as the RDMW?s lead for parks and recreation in Council/Board meetings, public forums, and interagency working groups Represent management on the JOHSC, contributing to hazard identification, workplace inspections, and safety policy enforcement Foster and maintain partnerships with Indigenous governments, contractors, user groups, and regional partners Provide leadership during seasonal transitions, emergency response incidents, and unexpected service disruptionsCandidate ProfileMinimum Qualifications Bachelor?s degree in Recreation Management, Public Administration, Facility Management, or a related discipline Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in municipal or regional recreation leadership Minimum of 3 years direct supervisory or management experience overseeing full-time staff Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, capital project delivery, and policy interpretation Strong understanding of public sector operations, procurement, and funding mechanisms Valid Class 5 BC Driver?s Licence with clean abstractPreferred Qualifications Master?s degree in Public Administration, Community Development, or related field Experience working in remote, rural, or multi-jurisdictional environment Familiarity with asset management systems, safety compliance tools, and board-level reporting protocolsRequired Certifications Refrigeration Operator?s Certificate (or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire) Occupational First Aid - Level 1 or higher WHMIS 2015 Certification WorkSafeBC-approved JOHSC Training (8-hour minimum) or willingness to complete within 3 months Valid Class 5 Driver?s Licence with clean abstractPreferred Certifications Certified Ice Technician (CIT) - for arena operations Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) - for parks/playgrounds oversight Asset Management Professional (AMP) or equivalent designation Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar credential Emergency Management (ICS 100 / 200) Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Lockout/Tagout, and Confined Space Awareness FoodSafe Level 1Core Competencies Decisive leadership with the ability to manage complexity under constrained resources. High political acuity and ability to work with elected officials, stakeholders, and Indigenous partners. Crisis management skills and composure under pressure. Results-driven mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
