Municipal & Planning Law Mid-Level Associate

Our client, a longstanding and well-regarded firm in Southern Ontario (Waterloo Region), is seeking a mid-level associate to join its respected Municipal and Planning Law group. This role involves high-impact work across land use, development approvals, and regulatory law, supporting both public-sector institutions and sophisticated private clients.

Core Practice Areas :

  • Planning and development : zoning, site plans, minor variances, and consents
  • Hearings before the Ontario Land Tribunal and related tribunals
  • Expropriation and environmental risk management
  • Tax assessment appeals and regulatory compliance
  • By-law drafting, municipal licensing, and procurement strategy
  • Municipal governance : conflict of interest, election law, and freedom of information

What Theyre Looking For :

  • 5-7+ years of focused experience in municipal, planning, or regulatory law
  • Strong knowledge of the Planning Act and related provincial legislation
  • Demonstrated tribunal and advocacy experience - OLTB or similar settings preferred
  • Sound judgment and ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice
  • Comfortable advising diverse stakeholders : municipalities, developers, utilities, and boards
