Job summary

City of Fort St. John is seeking a versatile maintenance worker to perform unskilled and semi-skilled tasks across water, sewer, roads, parks, and city facilities.

You will operate equipment, assist tradespeople, and support routine upkeep of critical municipal infrastructure. This role emphasizes safety, physical stamina, and the ability to follow written and oral instructions while delivering reliable service to residents and businesses under BC regulations.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent required.
• WCB First Aid Level I certification required.
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence and TDG/WHMIS knowledge.
• Criminal record check may be required by department.
• Must be able to perform heavy manual tasks and work safely.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintenance, repair and replacement of water, sewer and storm systems.
• Perform road, sidewalk, park and facility maintenance tasks.
• Operate and service basic maintenance equipment and tools.
• Support crews with construction and safety tasks.
• Maintain logs and records; assist with traffic control and site cleaning.
