The Municipal Engineer II is an on-site position located in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Relocation Assistance is available for the successful candidate. Your key responsibilities

1. Conduct engineering reviews and provide regulatory approvals throughout all phases of the land development process, including Area Structure Plans, Conceptual Schemes, and Development Permits.
2. Negotiate, prepare, and secure necessary approvals for Service and Development Agreements and related engineering reports and design drawings.
3. Collaborate with developers, consultants, and internal teams to resolve technical and scheduling conflicts.
4. Perform engineering analysis, studies, designs, cost estimates, and contract management for municipal infrastructure projects.
5. Develop, update, and interpret municipal standards related to design, servicing, and construction.
6. Ensure compliance with industry regulations, municipal standards, and environmental and safety practices.
7. Provide technical guidance and support to internal staff, external agencies, and the public.
8. Act as a key resource and decision-maker in the absence of the Superintendent - Engineering - Planning.

What you bring

1. Expertise in civil engineering principles related to municipal infrastructure, including roads, utilities, stormwater systems, and land development.
2. Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
3. Experience in project management, contract preparation, and capital project execution.
4. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex technical challenges and develop creative solutions.
5. Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and discretion.
6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across teams and with external partners.
7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, engineering software, and GIS applications.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.
2. Professional Membership (or eligibility) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
3. Minimum of five (5) years of related experience as a Professional Engineer.
4. Valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
5. A combination of relevant training and experience may be considered.
