Municipal District of Taber - Hamlets Operator Assistant

The Assistant Hamlet Operator (seasonal) reports to the Projects & Infrastructure Supervisor and is responsible for the efficient operation of Water and Wastewater Infrastructure in the Municipal District of Taber (MDT). The role also includes year-round maintenance of parks, public spaces, and municipal properties within the hamlets. There are three positions available, located in Enchant, Hays, and Grassy Lake.

Daily Responsibilities:

Water and Wastewater Infrastructure:

• Perform routine testing to ensure water, wastewater, and storm drainage quality.
• Inspect facilities and infrastructure visually to identify issues and ensure safety and efficiency.
• Assist qualified professionals with repairs and maintenance.
• Report operational concerns promptly.
• Secure infrastructure sites.
• Meet critical deadlines, including reporting requirements per regulations and policies.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant policies and regulations.

Parks and Grounds Maintenance:

• Mow, trim, and maintain grassed areas and public spaces.
• Maintain shrubs and trees, including planting, watering, and pruning.
• Upkeep of sports fields and park amenities.
• Manage waste disposal and cleanliness in parks and public areas.
• Support setup and takedown for community events.

Other Duties:

• Respond to emergencies within MDT and hamlets.
• Perform other municipal duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Knowledge:

• Post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in Water and Wastewater systems, or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of regulations related to water and wastewater systems.

Experience and Skills:

• Valid Class 5 Operator's License or willingness to upgrade.
• On-Call availability and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
