Responsible for enforcement of City by-laws by interpreting the by-laws and communicating these to the general public.
The Specialized Housing Enforcement (SHE) Unit administers and enforces a range of municipal by-laws, licensing requirements, and regulatory standards governing City-regulated housing accommodations. The team conducts inspections, investigations, public education, and enforcement activities related to apartment buildings, short-term rentals, additional residential units, lodging houses, and other regulated housing uses to ensure compliance and support safe housing conditions for residents. Bylaws enforced include, but are not limited to the Rental Apartment Buildings By-law, the Property Standards By-law, and the Short-Term Rental Accommodation Licensing By-law.

NOTE: This position will require the successful candidates to work various shifts, which include days, evenings, overnight, weekends and statutory holidays and, at times, will require overtime. This position may involve operating a City fleet vehicle and wearing of a City-issued uniform. A Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) will be required of all successful candidates, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted. There may be a written test conducted as part of the interview process. Successful candidates for this Municipal By-law Enforcement Officer (MBEO) competition may be considered for other MBEO positions, including PSIE and BCE, based on operational needs.
