Job summary

CBC/Radio-Canada’s Northwest Territories newsroom in Yellowknife seeks a full-time Reporter/Editor (English Services) to pitch, research, write, edit and package stories for video, radio and digital platforms. The role requires a university degree in journalism or equivalent and at least three years of reporting experience.

You will work on tight deadlines, cover breaking news, present on-air and collaborate with a broad network of sources across the NWT, including Indigenous communities.

Qualifications

• University degree in journalism or equivalent with minimum three years of related experience.
• Experience in a news and breaking news environment.
• Knowledge of CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
• Ability to report for video and audio platforms.
• Knowledge of Northwest Territories politics and issues.
• The ability to speak an Indigenous language of the NWT is a major asset.
• Valid driver’s licence.

Responsibilities

• Pitch, research, write and present original stories for CBC platforms.
• Respond quickly to breaking news events and package stories for digital, radio, and video.
• Regularly present stories on-air on radio and TV, with context for audiences.
• Develop relationships with sources and contacts in the Northwest Territories.
