Responsibilities
  • Responsible for on-going, pro-active coverage of regional and local issues in the CTV News Barrie coverage area
  • Identify, research, and write news stories and headlines for the station’s website and social media properties in keeping with the station’s standards and style
  • Stay on top of breaking news, ensuring fresh and relevant content on the site
  • Edit, package and publish video content for CTV News Digital to serve all news platforms
  • Curate photos and build high-impact image galleries
  • Conduct interviews for news coverage
  • Gather, write and shoot news material for television
  • As an integrated member of the news team, participate in assignment & line-up decisions and writing of stories for the newscast
  • May include on-air reporting backfill
  • Will include weekend shift rotation acting as digital lead.
  • Be the CTV News Barrie YouTube lead.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience (2-3 years) of news writing for broadcast or web/digital that meets editorial, legal, ethical, style and grammatical standards
  • 2-3 years experience with editorial decision making, with a track record for quality news judgement
  • Experience with non-linear editing
  • Familiarity with iNews.
  • Experience Field shooting an asset
  • Post-Secondary education in journalism or broadcasting
  • In-depth knowledge of coverage region, national and international news.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines of several simultaneous duties, while maintaining focus.
  • Ability to work in a team, and be self-motivated.
  • The successful applicant must demonstrate a high degree of adaptability and must be committed to learning in a fast-paced environment.
  • A full G License is required

Hours of Work: 40.0 hours per week. Overtime as required based on operational needs. Will include working shift-work, including evenings, weekends and on holidays.
