Job summary

Catholic Social Services in Red Deer is recruiting a contract Settlement Support Worker for our Immigration and Settlement Services team. You will provide interpretation services in clients' languages and support their transition to Canada.

Under guidance from Settlement Counsellors, you will interpret in orientations and appointments, teach life skills, and help newcomers master essential daily tasks in Canada.

Qualifications

• Fluent in Rohingya, Tigrinya or Kinyarwanda in addition to English.
• 6 months to 1 year experience working with newcomers and providing interpretation and translation services.
• Vehicle and valid class 5 driver’s license – requirement to transport clients in your personal vehicle.
• Clear and Current Drivers Abstract.
• Proof of Vehicle Insurance showing $2 million liability coverage.
• Proof of Vehicle Registration for insured vehicle.
• Vulnerable Sector Check from local RCMP or City Police.
• Child Intervention Record Check.

Responsibilities

• Provide interpretation and translation services to clients in their own language.
• Interpret for orientation sessions and at various appointments.
• Teach life skills and provide hands-on learning to help newcomers master skills necessary to live in Canada.
• Collaborate with Settlement Counsellors and the team to support a smooth transition into Canada.
