Multi Utility Locator - Telecom Construction

Description

You are a dedicated Utility Locator who takes pride in accurately identifying and marking underground facilities to ensure safety and prevent damage. You thrive in independent roles, managing your time efficiently while working in diverse outdoor environments. With hands-on experience in the telecom industry, you understand the importance of precision and reliability when working around critical infrastructure. In this role, you will support Ledcor’s FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) deployments as well as other new growth projects across the region.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Interpret job order tickets accurately
• Read and understand blueprints and utility maps
• Plan efficient travel routes through both urban and rural locations
• Operate specialized locating equipment to identify the exact position of underground utilities
• Monitor excavation activities to ensure underground facilities are not damaged
• Create clear and professional utility sketches using Visio

Qualifications:

• 1–3 years of experience locating underground utilities or working with outside plant fiber optics
• Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
• Experience with telecommunications and wiring is an asset
• Familiarity with locate ticketing and mapping tools such as Utilocate, Multiviewer, and U2 is considered an asset
• Experience using Microsoft Visio to create locate sketches is also an asset
• A positive, customer-focused attitude with strong problem-solving skills
• Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing field conditions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Comfortable using multiple computer applications and digital tools
• Must hold a Class 5 driver's license and provide a clean driver’s abstract
• Committed to maintaining vehicle, tools, and testing equipment in top condition

Work Conditions:

• Company van and major tools are provided
• Travel required, including overnight stays and out-of-town training or assignments
• Preference will be given to local candidates
• Work takes place in a variety of outdoor conditions — including uneven terrain, residential areas, construction zones, and all weather
• Physically able to meet the demands of the role (walking, standing, bending, etc.)
