Breakfast Television, Toronto's longest-running Morning Show on CityTV, is looking for a Full-time News Writer, capable of using traditional and non-traditional media to provide industry-leading news coverage. Reporting to the Supervising Producer of Breakfast Television, the successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional editorial skills while producing compelling newscasts that inform and engage our morning audience.

What you'll be doing...
  1. Working as part of a team on an early-morning shift, you will write and create fast-paced, compelling and informative newscasts airing on Breakfast Television.
  2. Source news stories from a variety of outlets to create and present strategic daily content.
  3. Create and research story ideas.
  4. Contribute to creative brainstorms on content development.
  5. Recognize deadlines and prioritize work accordingly.
  6. Ensure that content is factually and grammatically correct.
  7. Participate in post-production meetings and critique sessions.
  8. Setting up interviews and chasing stories.
  9. Producing news segments or chats.
  10. Writing news updates for local and national audiences.
  11. Contributing editorial content to various digital properties under the BT brand.
What you will bring...
  1. Minimum 3 years of news television producing, writing and/or reporting experience.
  2. An ability to write and update news scripts clearly, concisely, and with quick turnaround.
  3. Ability to work individually and part of a team.
  4. Creative vision and keen editorial judgment.
  5. Superior writing, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  6. Control room and field production experience an asset.
  7. A broadcast journalism diploma or equivalent experience.
  8. Sound communication skills.
