Job Summary:

This Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville position has hybrid responsibilities between Madisonville Community College and BHDM. We are excited to meet the Medical Laboratory needs of our region. BHDM and MCC are searching for an outstanding MLT specialist to train future MLT specialists to work in the hospital setting.

Serves as Program Coordinator for the Madisonville Community College NAACLS-accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Provides leadership, oversees program operations, and ensures compliance with accreditation standards while fostering student success.

Performs a variety of test procedures on multiple body fluids submitted for analysis. Provides the physician with accurate reports to aid in the diagnosis or treatment of patients. May be responsible for decisions regarding quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Job Duties:

1.

Quality –

  • Accurately performs all routine and non-routine duties specified in departmental procedure manuals without supervision, as indicated by annual section competency checklists. See Job Specific Competencies for listings of checklists.
  • Demonstrates the ability to identify, troubleshoot, and document procedure or instrument problems.
  • Provides high quality of service in areas assigned.
  • Accurately documents and transcribes report data in a neat, legible manner with no more than two clerical errors per evaluation period.
  • Participates in and implements Quality Improvement activities as requested by department director.

2.

Education –

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the MLT program.
  • Maintain compliance with NAACLS accreditation standards, including curriculum design, program assessment, and reporting.
  • Coordinate program activities, including clinical placement and affiliation agreements with clinical sites.
  • Recruit, supervise, and mentor faculty and staff within the program.
  • Teach courses within the MLT curriculum as needed.
  • Develop and implement program goals, objectives, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure student engagement, academic success, and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including healthcare organizations, advisory committees, and accrediting bodies.
  • Prepare and manage the program's budget and resources.
  • Responsible for student advising and recruitment.
  • Participate in Health Sciences division meetings.
  • Participates in and will instruct required in-service and continuing education programs or presentations

3.

Turn around –

  • Routinely performs lab procedures within established department turn around times.
  • Follows specified protocol for alert value and stat reporting

4.

Accurately completes Core Competency Manual on an annual basis.

5.

Accurately completes Chemical Hygiene competency on an annual basis.

6.

Maintains a safe work environment and adheres to safety standards established by departmental and system wide policy. Will make every effort to correct or report safety hazards and potentially unsafe working conditions.

7.

Develop programs to attain personal goals and participate in educational activities to ensure further professional growth.

8.

Maintains and projects positive guest relations skills to visitors, patients, families, vendors, and employees.

9.

Communicates a positive image of Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville through personal and telephone contacts with hospital guests and with the public. This includes maintaining the confidentiality of a patient’s medical condition, medical record, or any other essential information.

10.

Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job-related hazards, and national patient safety goals.

Specified checklists must be completed before a technologist can work independently in the specific section of laboratory. These checklists are also reviewed annually as a means of assuring quality performance. The number of checklists completed is dependent upon shift and staffing needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

BS degree in related science required, Masters required within 3 years. Medical Laboratory Scientist certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology required. EXPERIENCE: Experience in curriculum development and accreditation processes preferred and strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required.
